ANYONE CAN BE A STAR WAS THE THEME OF THIS BIRTHDAY
Let's be honest, picking a birthday theme for a pre-teen girl is difficult! Especially when you don't want to opt for entertaining a group of girls for an evening sleepover, so when I had to come up with something suitable for a Friday afternoon, casual, short and building off things I already had around the house... A STAR party came into mind! Maybe it's all the recent inspiration from Lady Gaga inspiring us all in the recent A Star is Born movie, but I really wanted to give these girls a few hours to dress up, sing, and be whoever they wanted to be for the afternoon!
My first project, was to transform the current playroom into a dining space fit for a crew of rockstars! Since I'm in the party business, it was pretty easy to grab items from past parties and around the house - I love to decorate with black and white and since we were only entertaining a handful of girls it was easy to mix and match patterns to complete the look!
That said, once I set the table, I felt like something was missing. The party needed a pop of color and a way to transform it to a true star party. I don't use my Cricut Air tool often as I'm not a fan of DIY projects (especially not right before a party) but I figured I had a vision and it was straight forward enough that a try at dusting off the Cricut might be worth it! I'm so happy I did!
When I sat down to do this quick project, I honestly was just looking to make a big star and add some color to each table place setting. After a few minutes of playing though, I realized I could make a cool personalized picture frame on card stock and if I let the girls play with our Instax Mini Camera they could have even more fun not only being the rockstars but taking turns being the fan club too with a way to recall the afternoon for days to come!
An old foil backdrop we had from a past holiday party and a very quick balloon garland later we were ready to party! Not only could the girls come in right after school and enjoy some treats but the party was all contained to one space in the house with room to play dress up, snap photos, sing on the karaoke microphone and have a blast together!
I'm a big advocate of having a plan and thinking through your party details well in advance, but as a mom of two busy kids sometimes I know that's just not feasible and this last minute rockstar party goes to prove that sometimes a more impromptu approach can be just as much fun! Sure I knew for weeks the girls were coming over that day and I had some ideas in the back of my head... but the brownies were baked while I was digging through old boxes of decor and the Cricut project was a last last minute decision!
The best part is that I enjoyed watching the girls celebrate, sing their hearts out, and have fun being carefree rockstars for the afternoon!
